What does SPLOT do ?

Since its founding in 1981, SPLOT has met regularly despite its members being dispersed all over the country, and recently also to far flung parts of the world. Originally the club would meet every couple of months for a major orienteering event, but over the years the number and variety of SPLOT trips has increased to the stage where you will find some sort of SPLOT activity going on most weekends. These days this is as likely to be a walking, cycling or skiing trip as it is an orienteering event. However orienteering is still at the core of many SPLOT activities, with regular outings to all of the major British events and some foreign ones too.

As the average age of SPLOT members has got older and the average incomes bigger we have also started enjoying more of the luxuries of life. Whereas in the early days it was quite common to stay in Youth Hostels, a nice cosy B&B is more in keeping with the modern SPLOT. This does not mean that we are getting soft - well actually it does mean that we are getting soft but you will still find SPLOT members regularly taking part in Mountain Marathons and other major sporting challenges.

As for the future, the "SPLOT breeding programme" has moved into overdrive over the last few years so expect to see the stars of the next generation of SPLOT at an orienteering event near you.
